For whānau

Compassionate bail applications.

This page is for the whānau of someone in prison who needs urgent compassionate bail, to attend a tangi or funeral, to visit someone who is very ill, or for another exceptional reason. Tell us what has happened and we will prepare an urgent application to the Court.

If the tangi or hearing is within 48 hours, please call us as well. Time matters in these applications. Sending the form is enough to start, but a call means we can begin straight away. 09 444 5335
Step one

You tell us what has happened

Fill in the form below with as much as you know. If you do not have every detail, send it anyway, we can follow up with you.

Step two

We prepare the application

Our office gathers what the Court needs, the funeral notice, medical confirmation, or other supporting material, and files it urgently.

Step three

The Court decides

A Judge decides whether compassionate bail is granted, and on what conditions. We will keep you informed at every stage.

Start the application.

Everything you send is confidential. There is no cost to make this enquiry, and you do not need to be an existing client of the firm.

Please read before you send

Filling out this form does not mean bail is granted. It helps our office prepare an urgent application to the Court. The decision is the Judge’s alone.
